Lyon - Getting There

LYON

As we were saying each week we will look at one city. The posts will be of varying content from travel, college to food and pubs to hit in the city. As announced this week its Lyon, France.

It is known as the culinary capital of France. If you are planning on going here for erasmus, one thing is for sure you will definately eat well!!But we will come to that in a later post.

So what information have you been given already, do you know your dates yet? When are you going to get there? How are you going to get there? Where will I start....what will I organise first??

Well first off you'll be delighted to know that both Ryanair and Aerlingus fly there from Dublin and Aerlingus also fly from Belfast. Ryanair of course does'nt exactly get you into the center of Lyon - you will arrive in Grenoble which is about 1.30 mins drive from Lyon.

Ryanair - Grenoble
Dublin - Liverpool - London - Edinbourgh - Stolkholm

The bus alone from Lyon will take you about an hour and a half and will cost you around Euro - 20. The other way of getting there is by train - and then bus it from grenoble city center - but the airport is 4o kms form the city center!!!Bus will cost you about 4 euro and the train 10 - 15!!

Aerlingus - St. Expury (Lyon)
Lyon -

St. Exupery, Lyon's main airport is only 40 mins away from Lyon city center (Part Dieu) and will cost you about Euro - 7 for more info see this link -

http://www.satobus.com/welcome.html

But it will cost you more to fly with the main airlines because of the airport tax here!!

So these are the main ways of getting there....

Next up ...Quick overview of the city itself!!

Hello and welcome to Erasmus Cafe from all of our team!!

Hello everybody,

First of all thanks for coming and having a look at our new blog. We have set this up to provide you with the latest information you need before you set about organising your erasmus year abroad.

- First piece of essentiel information : ERASMUS is the best year of your life :)

But it takes a good bit of organisation to get going. Thats why we are here.

Each week we will pick out at random an Erasmus destination and give you all sorts of information about the city. Each post will provide you with essential details such as :

Flight details
Necessary documents to take with you
How and where to look for an appartment
Opening a bank account
How to look for a job
Insights into various colleges

Subjects
The best bars and clubs to hit
Places to visit at the weekends...

All of this and more will be available. The best way to present you with info is to post interviews with various people who have completed an Erasmus year in the cities...they will advise you and be able to answer all your questions (hopefully)...

Then you can come on and chat to other students on Erasmus and the same time as you guys!!

So stay tuned for all the latest cities.

The first city Erasmus Cafe will be looking at is LYON (France)...

Watch this space...

Cheers,
